Media Fairs in the Media Capital

Gamescom

Cologne Exhibition Centre, with the fifth largest exhibition facilities in the world and situated in an outstanding location overlooking Cologne Cathedral on the opposite bank of the Rhine, is an important driving force for the development of North Rhine-Westphalia as a media centre.

Over the past few years, the Koelnmesse (Cologne Fair) strongly extended its trade fair portfolio in the business segments Communications & Media as well as IT & Digital Entertainment. Globally leading trade fairs appreciate the advantages of the Cologne fairground as well as the conventions and special events. To long-established events like the photokina and the medienforum.nrw, new formats occupying themselves in particular – and with great success – with new developments in the world of media and the interactive entertainment industry have been added.

Gerald Böse;

»Cologne also plays a leading role as a media fair location.
Fairs provide essential impulse to the industry as platforms for innovations and business. Through collaboration between trade fairs, broadcasters, publishers, service providers and the industry, existing networks and new topics such as digital marketing or interactive entertainment grow together. This ensures that the media sector will continue to be an important growth segment of the Koelnmesse in the future.«

Photokina

Cologne Media Fairs on the Road to Success

From 15 to 19 August 2012, the international games community came together in Cologne for the fourth time to experience spectacular innovations and celebrate the year’s most important games and entertainment event. Over 275,000 visitors and 600 exhibitors attended the international trade fair and event highlight for interactive games and entertainment in the city on the Rhine. The tried and tested trade fair concept gets all target groups of the games industry involved, from developers, publishers and retailers down to intensive players and the dynamically growing group of occasional and spare time players. The fair provides a suitable offer to each and every target group: the business centre gives industry and trade an ideal environment to do business, and in the entertainment area exhibitors present visitors the entire world of interactive entertainment to test and join in.

Imaging Fair with a Long Tradition

The photokina, which has already brought the global photo world to Cologne since 1950, can look back on the longest history. More than 185,000 visitors attended the internationally leading fair of the imaging industry in 2012. The who-is-who of the international photo and imaging industry presented itself in a very cheerful mood, as more than 1000 international providers presented visitors an enormous variety of new products, technical innovations and future trends. Photokina thus remains the only event throughout the world, which presents image media, image technologies and image markets so comprehensively and in its entire variety to both professionals and consumers.
