At the beginning of the year 2000, the Hanseatic film scene celebrated an international prize which was awarded to the Studio Hamburg Group. The feature film »Gloomy Sunday«, which also received great critical praise here in Germany, was honoured with the »Prix Special« for the best foreign-language film at the largest film festival in Latin America.

The Hamburg-based WÜSTE Productions is also among those enjoying recent honours. High-quality »TV fare« finds its way onto the television screen from Hamburg’s production houses as well, for example the planned filming of two novels by the best-selling author Donna Leon (Producer: Katharina Trebitsch) or top-class television crime dramas from the Monaco Film Group. Roger Willemsen’s Noa Noa Television Productions specialises in high-quality interview programmes and documentaries.
The production company Me, Myself & Eye is Hamburg’s pro in the area of popular TV magazines (i.e. musical events »Pop 2000« and »The Dome«). Germany’s most successful chat show producer, Schwartzkopff tv productions, also operates out of the city on the Elbe. And last but not least, the commercial film branch is very well represented on the Alster and Elbe.
Since October 1999, the Dutch-named Enie van de Meiklokjes, born in Potsdam, has been presenting the popular young persons show »Bravo-TV« on RTL II: »I will ensure that Bravo TV continues to offer exactly the right mixture of features for young people«, promises the self-confident 25-year-old with the fiery-red mane of hair. |
