Popular waves for Northern Lights

Radio Schleswig-Holstein

Radio Hamburg

In Northern Germany numerous private radio broadcasters have assured themselves of a firm place in the favour of the listeners alongside the public-law broadcasting stations.

A firm favourite alongside Radio Bremen is the »4 State Institution«, based in Hamburg, Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR) with its stations NDR 1, NDR 2, NDR Kultur, NDR Info, NDR 90,3 and the youth station N-JOY Radio. Besides this there are about 30 private stations in the Hamburg area all fighting for the favour of the listener.

Amongst these are Radio Hamburg, the new Alster Radio, Klassik Radio or fun Radio 95.0. Hit Radio Antenne and the fashionable radio station ffn are also being broadcast from Lower Saxony into neighbouring states. Schleswig-Holstein is the home of the oldest private radio stations, Radio Schleswig-Holstein, which has been on air since 1986. In 1997 the station received competition from delta radio, which relies on the best Rock and Pop, whereas Radio NORA concentrates exclusively on Oldies and Evergreens. In Mecklenburg-Vorpommern the Ostseewelle Station, which was founded in 1995, has revamped schedules and the music. The nationwide private broadcaster whose strength lies in the fact that it provides for regional tastes, has written the slogan »More Variety for Mecklenburg Vorpommern« on its flag.
