Fresh Breeze

Berlin-Brandenburg’s media locations on the up

Babelsberg

The Studio Babelsberg AG, will celebrate a round figure birthday in 2012 – the studio has dedicated itself to film production already since 1912, exactly for 100 years. On an area of 420,000 square metres, 16 film studios, art department, post production and copying works offer the best conditions for the production of German and international cinema and television films.

Hasso Plattner Ventures, the venture capital funds founded in 2004 by SAP co-founder and supervisory board chairman, moved into the new film buildings in Potsdam-Babelsberg in 2006. The renovated villa in August-Bebel-Str. 88 is only a stone’s throw from the studios. When the company moved in, CEO and President Eran Davidson announced that the investment bank of the state of Brandenburg (ILB) and the Californian venture capital business, CMEA Ventures, will both participate with 5 million euros each in the funds founded by Plattner with a planned total volume of 50 million.

The epicentre of Berlin‘s music industry

The media spree, the area on both sides of the Spree at the Ostbahnhof, between the Jannowitzbrücke and Elsenbrücke, is especially benefiting from the development of Berlin to the country’s music capital. Today there are a lot of clubs and venues on both sides of the Spree that are firmly established – and you couldn’t ima-gine Berlin’s -nightlife -without them. The move of the headquarters of Universal Music Germany into a former egg refrigeration warehouse on the Oberbaumbrücke in the summer of 2002 was a breakthrough: It brought with it further significant new settlements from the media and music industry. From media spree you can reach the Berliner Autobahnring as well as the future major airport Berlin-Brandenburg International (BBI) in only a few minutes by car. Last but not least there are excellent public transport accessibilities, magnificent panoramic views and very reasonable rents.

Everyone together

Media centres in the capital are also reporting many successful new moves. »Over 700 companies have moved to Adlershof,«says Peter Strunk, Head of Communications at Wista-Management GmbH which develops the Adlershof site. The number of employees has increased to 12,000. To this also come 6,300 students as the science institute of the renowned Humboldt University in Berlin is also based here. »Adlershof is not yet a name like Stanford or Harvard,« says Günther Tränkle, Director of the Ferdinand-Braun Institute of High Frequency Technology, »but it’s on the best way there.«
