The television business is experiencing a major shake-up – it is no longer only the classic TV channels which are providing consumers with typical TV content. Today, cable network and satellite operators as well as mobile providers are introducing new business models and are even becoming competitors themselves. Public as well as private broadcasters offer mobile users slimmed-down versions of their contents as »Made-for-Mobile« programmes, for example news programmes in 100 second format. In addition to this, there are also programmes produced especially for mobiles.

The Studio Babelsberg AG, will celebrate a round figure birthday in 2012 – the studio has dedicated itself to film production already since 1912, exactly for 100 years. On an area of 420,000 square metres, 16 film studios, art department, post production and copying works offer the best conditions for the production of German and international cinema and television films.

On 3 December 1992 the former British Vodafone CEO was absolutely flabbergasted when he saw 15 characters pop up on his mobile telephone. Software technician Neil Papworth had sent him the message »Merry Christmas« from his PC, transmitted on the signals channel for dialling phone calls. This marked the birth of the first mobile telephone added value service with the three magic letters SMS. Since then, mobile telephones have not only become considerably smaller and handier, they have also become genuine multi-media machines for which almost nothing is impossible.
